Document on local govt from May: The Sun International

Islamabad: The National Reconstruction Bureau has prepared a 150-page document containing details regarding the government’s devolution of power plan including district assemblies and their election schedule.

Millions of copies of this document has been printed and will be circulated across the country from May 1,” a senior member of the NRB Muhammad Ali Khan told the Sun in an interview here on Thursday.

Ali said with the introduction of the district assemblies, masses problems could be solves at their doorstep. He said for the first time in country’s history, the masses had been given real power and the entire administration and police would be accountable to their district assembly for their actions.

The district assemblies would end the urban-rural divide in the country and there would be a feeling of national integration,” he said. He said the government would soon introduce law to provide protection to this system and ordinance would be promulgated soon in this regard.
